Examine poetry in new ways to improve phonemic awareness and language skills in collaborative learning activities. Each unit introduces grade-appropriate poetry (well known, traditional, and original) to engage students in activities designed to increase phonemic awareness, multiple meaning words, and unfamiliar vocabulary. Each poem is followed by at least three activities that focus on word skills, such as readers theater, word sorts, or rhyming.
